I can just hear this from the neo-cons.
"It's not easy being a superpower..
let me count the ways.."
any guesses why?

Re: It's not easy being a superpower..
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 6:40 AMI would say it is easy being a superpower when you have $1 trillion a year for the military. After all, many of those who support the military-industrial-congressional complex are happy that the U.S. has so many enemies. It "justifies" the $1 trillion a year for the military.

"It's not easy being a superpower.."
But it's a lot easier than living in a country that is a victim of US imperialism. Try living in Haiti under a US imposed death squad government under murderous UN occupation where the staple food has become cookies made of mud mixed with lard.
“It's not easy being a superpower.. I can just hear this from the neo-cons.”
The liberals in power are just as guilty as the neo-cons of carrying out the policies of US imperialist exploitation, terror, and murder. Their excuses are just new versions of the racist and imperialist "white man's burden".
"any guesses why?"
Five reasons. Corporate profit from cheap labor. Corporate profit from cheap resources. Corporate profit from control of markets. Corporate profit from war. And bank profits from loans at loan-shark rates.

Re: It's not easy being a superpower..
Sun, August 16, 2009 - 10:24 PMIt's a society that requires lawyers. The higher paid ones work for corporations, it is a mechanism that maintains legalities that are contrary to justice. But there is one problem, you can't trust most types of societies if they didn't have them.
Governments always allow wealth, because they can't exist without wealth. Ironically this could be arguements for marxism vs. anarchism, and back. We don't live in an easy world to figure out. -

It is a much worse problem than higher paid lawyers working for corporations. All of the politicians making the laws are also working for corporations. The entire system is stacked against the working class, poor, and environment from top to bottom.
And no, governments don't always allow concentrated wealth. Cuba is a good example. Despite their shortcomings, the Cuban leadership changed the ownership of the means of production and redistributed the wealth. This has greatly increased the standard of living of the vast majority of the Cuban people in every measurable way from life expectancy, healthcare, and nutrition to culture, education, sports, and a healthier environment.

Mon, August 17, 2009 - 8:17 PMCuba does, but they aren't the worst case situation. I will give credit were it is due, the people are better off under Cuba, due to the fact that most wealth has been redistributed; and I will say that the embargo does mostly hurt the people. -

Re: It's not easy being a superpower..
Tue, August 18, 2009 - 6:25 AMAnd the embargo is a Cold War anachronism.
