I just heard a person phone C-SPAN who said that those who can't afford health care shouldn't get it. He also expressed his belief that the strong should live and the weak should perish. Yes! He actually said that. Though he may have the right to his opinion there, I have the right to mine as well. As such, I say his support for the Law of the Jungle is inappropriate. I base this on the fact that human beings have decided to live a lifestyle that's different from that of other species. That's why there's "civilization." In a civilized world, all people are supposed to be treated equally and fairly -- according to my estimate anyway. If you support the Law of the Jungle, then you oppose civilization. In other words, if you want to live by the Law of the Jungle, go live in a jungle. If you want to live in a world where people are treated fairly and equally and have access to health care, then go live in civilization.

Re: Heath care reform: 'The strong should live and the weak should perish'
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 10:04 AMAhh, Social Darwinism rears it's ugly head. The idea that the wealthy are somehow more evolved and that the poor should be eliminated through disease and death. I should hope we are a little more enlightened these days. -

Tue, September 22, 2009 - 4:29 PMAnd I suspect that a lot of these people who believe in social Darwinism don't believe in actual Darwinism. -

Re: Heath care reform: 'The strong should live and the weak should perish'
Tue, September 22, 2009 - 9:36 PMwell sometimes it makes me wonder if it is not some "liberal" pretending to be a republican or something .. just to prove a point.
I mean if howard stearn and side kicks can go pull pranks of CSPAN.. anything is possible..
I just got to believe there has got to be some descency and compassion in each person. I mean that guy talks as if he hasn't got to cousin or some family that could fall through the millions of loop holes the insurance company manage to tear everywhich way to prevent them to actually make good on what they market.
We are living in a Bizarro country these days..
we don't nee to just change since the insurance will likely get their version of change.. but we need to actually improve the health of our people..
and it is not like it is expensive.. (ok it is a bit) a bit less than a trillion over many years...
Look at how much we waisted in Iraq and Aghanistan.. 2 trillion is the last figure i heard..
and what health did that buy any one of us, except more people with PTSD, physical disabilities.. people actually dead.. what kind of health care is that?
ok.. enough said! -

Wed, September 23, 2009 - 1:18 AM19th century law of the west mythology still guides discussions at too many dinner tables where patriarchal tough guy attitudes sway a new generation. Heard the same attitude from Alaskan fishermen hanging out in "the suburb called Seattle".
